The Birthland Vision

“It is our deepest hope that we have created a space where the Oakland birth community can feel safe, respected and loved.”

For three years Birthland served the Oakland birthing community through our quaint storefront in Temescal Alley. We provided pre and post-natal services regardless of chosen birth site and supported families in having beautiful birth experiences. We ensured that our model was financially accessible by offering a sliding-fee-scale and we sold essential products for babies, pregnancy and postpartum. We partnered with local birthworkers who offered, bodywork, lactation support, childbirth education, acupuncture, nutrition education and so much more. It is our deepest hope that we created a space where the Oakland birth community felt safe, respected and loved.

We have expanded our focus towards our goal of bringing a Perinatal Wellness Center that is both a delivery site and resource for the full scope of perinatal services to our Oakland community. The Birthland Wellness Center will be an open-model, freestanding birth center where families will access wrap-around maternity care services and midwifery care through one shared location, direct referrals, and accessible financial packages.

The vision of the Birthland Wellness Center ensures that mothers and birthing parents are truly informed about how a wellness approach to maternity care improves birth experiences, birth narratives, reduces risk and unnecessary interventions. The long-term goal of this approach is to impact birth outcomes for low-income women and communities of color as well as expand the community’s awareness of the CPM model as an essential maternity care approach. We will remain true to our commitment to building community by ensuring that wellness services are available to all regardless of income or insurance status.

Join us in supporting community midwifery, racial health equity, and this pregnancy wellness model!
